Our History

The name ‘Pine Trees’ derives from the acres of woodland and beautiful tall Perthshire trees that surround the hotel. However, when the original mansion house was built in 1892, it was known as Tom-na-Monachan which roughly translates to ‘Hill of the Monks’ or 'The Monks Hill'.

The beautiful Victorian mansion was built for one Miss Molyneux and was an unusual addition to the area for the time because of its fine interior plasterwork and timber.

It was sold in 1911 to His Excellency Yervant Hagog Iskender, founder of the 'Citizens of the World Movement'. The family made a few changes to Tom-na-Monachan including installing a grand staircase and a marble bathroom.

In 1923 it was sold again to Lieutenant Commander Harry Dewhurst who had the exterior whitewashed to the striking look we see today.

The house was converted from a private residence to a luxury country house hotel in 1935 and during WWII, the hotel was used to provide rest for officers when it was taken over by the war office.

Sustainability at Pine Trees

At Pine Trees Hotel, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to introduce Belu Water, eliminating plastic water bottles and helping to raise funds for WaterAid to support clean water initiatives. Our commitment to the environment began with auctioning off all our old furniture, raising £1,500 for supported charities. In our restaurants, we take pride in using 80% locally sourced produce, ensuring the freshest ingredients while supporting our community and reducing our carbon footprint. Join us in our journey towards a greener future, where luxury meets responsibility.
